The impressive snowfalls received this winter in some regions are starting to weigh heavily on the roofs of our homes and other buildings.
Remember that several centimetres of snow on the roof of a building can represent hundreds of kilograms. And, with the temperatures getting milder, the load increases and we can even see ice dams forming along the gutters and roof edges.
These formations can cause considerable damage to the home, ranging from water infiltration to damaged shingles, not to mention the risk of injuries related to falling ice.
It is advisable to regularly remove snow and ice from the roof of the house before they accumulate significantly.
Of course, snow removal is not a simple task and it involves certain dangers for people who are not equipped and experienced.
If, as a homeowner, you decide to remove snow from your roof, make sure to take all the necessary safety measures. Otherwise, it is best to call a professional. There are no risks to take.
Cracks in the interior walls, interior doors that get stuck or rub, unusual creaking noises that can be heard, ceilings that are warped are all signs of a roof that is overstressed.
As for flat roofs, the excessive weight of snow and ice can also cause the structure to gradually collapse, jeopardizing the safety of the house and its occupants.
Do not hesitate to entrust the de-icing of your roof to professionals. The risks of climbing a slippery roof in cold weather are much too high.
